| Description/Historical Information: | Bowls on the Hall Leys. Whilst the identities of these four men is unknown, the person second from the right enlisted in the Army in 1914 and he can be seen in a number of images taken and Buxton and later with the 2/6th Sherwood Foresters in Luton. He would have been someone Vernon Lamb knew well. See: VLA9791 | VLA9793 | VLA9811 | And before the war on: VLA5092 | VLA5126 On the opposite side of Causeway Lane we can see the sight screens belonging to Matlock Cricket Club on their Causeway Lane ground. Behind the tree in the centre are the Denefields - then known as the Dean Fields. Higher up, on the left, is the spire of what was then Matlock Congregational Church. The former Belle Vue Hydro is also on the skyline, next to the central tree. |
