Tyack's New Bath Hotel advertisement from p.29.
|
|
Thomas Tyack was born at Chacewater, Cornwall in 1836. He was the son of James Tyack, a
shoemaker, and his wife Mary. Thomas worked as a teacher for a number of years, first in
Cornwall but later in Clayton le Moor, Lancashire. He had become head of a National School
there by 1871. He married Maria Lawson, the niece of Brian Bates of the Old Hall Hotel,
Buxton in March 1877. He took over the running of the New Bath
from Mrs. Jordan and Mr. Ivaats shortly afterwards; the license was transferred to him at the Wirksworth
Petty Sessions on 14 April.
Four years after this advertisement was published a similar one appeared in
another guide, by which time the hotel had been enlarged and newly furnished.
See the section about Tyack's Hotel on the Matlock
Bath, The Switzerland of England page.
